In reference to the book, "The Shackleton's" compiled by Bernice Close Shackelton -
Bernice was my husband's step-mother and as noted, she died in 1995.For more information about the book, ,you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
As noted in other messages, the book was published in 1972 and then a periodic newsletter update was published until the mid-1980's. It was Bernice's hope that someone would compile these newsletters into a follow-up book. Her failing eyesight forced her to have to give up this project (but not before she compiled 3 other family histories on other branches of the family). She would be thrilled to know that people are still asking about her book.
The first section of the book contains information on the English and Irish Shackletons and the second section is on the American Shackleton/Shackeltons.Bernice's one big disappointment was that she was not able to find the missing link between Richard Shackleton (abt 1720-1790), whom she believed to be the emigrator and the English or Irish Shackletons. She especially wanted to find a link to Ernest Henry Shackleton, the Antarctic explorer.
If anyone has more information about this Richard Shackleton than what is in the book, we would like to be able to include that in our family tree information. I am new at this, but it is my hope as I become more familiar with genealogy resources available through the Internet, etc, that perhaps I can find what she so wanted to find.
