My great -grandparents lived in Fauquier County, Virginia. They were James Shacklett and Hannah Carter, and were related to the Shackletts of Yew Hill and Rose Hill at Delaplane (aka Piedmont) before the Civil War. (the Edward and Hezekiah Shacklett families, sons of Benjamin and Catherine "Cassie" Tucker). My grandfather, James Shacklett was born in Virginia in the 1850's and came to Brooklyn, NY in 1879 after the Civil War.He had many siblings, most of whom remained in Virginia for another generation or two. They were mixed racially, products of old plantation slavery and slave owners. I suggest you read more postings on the message board. You may find your branch with someone else. There are thousands of Shackletts in America.
