In looking for Snodgrasses, I have come across some Shaddon/Shawdan/Shawdon/Shaddan information in Augusta & Botetourt Cos., VA.
Mathias/Mathew Shaddon d. in Augusta Co., VA, bef. 20 Aug 1765, when his wife was named executrix of his estate. After that it gets a bit confusing. There is a lawsuit involving Archibald Fisher & his wife Susanna Fisher (late Susanna Shaddon), executrix of Matthew Shaddon. From that, we would assume that Susanna, widow of Mathew Shaddon, m/2 Archibald Fisher. However in settling the estate in 1773, the executrix is again listed as Susannah Shaddon, and she pays out cash to Robert Shipley, Archibald Fisher, James & Joseph Snodgrass, & William Bumpus.Unfortunately, there is no indication as to whether or not these payees were heirs or creditors of the estate.
In 1772, in Botetourt Co., VA, Archibald Fisher was surety on the marriage bond for Phoebe Snodgrass to marry Martin Baker. Also in 1772 in Botetourt, Nathan Potts married Hannah Shaddon, whose guardian was James Snodgrass.Witnesses to the latter were Robert McClenahan, Joseph Snodgrass, & John & Rebecca Potts (Rebecca was the d/o Joseph Snodgrass).
I intend to do more research in the records of Augusta & Botetourt Cos., VA, when I get back to Salt Lake City (probably this fall sometime).Anyone wanting to coordinate research with me, please send me an email.
