Sherry:The cemetery I mentioned to Herschel is one created by George Shamblin, brother of the Jesse you mentioned, after he (and brother Henry) moved to what is now Clay Co WV but was then Nicholas Co Va in the 1830s.Several of his children are buried there, probably about a dozen graves, all marked with field stones only (no inscriptions). The cemetery is on the "Old Shamblin Place" of 650 acres that George owned and his heirs sold after his death. It is near Dorfee and Elkhurst, two towns on Elk River that are nearly ghost towns now.
Generally speaking, the descendants of Jesse spell their name Shamblen, descendants of George use Shamblin and the descendants of Henry use Shamblin except for descendants of Henry Jr. who use Shamlin.BUT THERE ARE NO HARD AND FAST RULES!Several times I have found two or more spellings in the same document.I believe the original spelling was Chamblin, as used by the early Virginia settlers in what are now Botetourt, Loudoun and Frederick counties.Bud Carder
