Generation # 1
Daniel Shanahan married Annie Carey in 1824 in Roscommon Ireland. They had two sons. During the potato famine, Daniel Sr. and one of his sons died. The next year, Annie and Daniel Jr. Set sail to Canada from Sligo Ireland. They lived in Chinguacousy (now in Brampton) for a while, then Peterborough Ontario while Daniel worked on the (new) railway there. Daniel finally obtained some land in Hullett Township just outside Clinton Ontario on the 4th concession. Daniel was a successful farmer owning 400 acres which at that time was a sizable farm.
Annie Shanahan (Carey), wife of Daniel Sr. died April 4th 1895 aged 89 years and is buried in the Patty Settlement Cemetery, Hullett Township, Clinton.
Daniel Jr. son of Daniel Sr. and Annie, married Elizabeth Scanlon, and raised a large family. They had Mary, John, Catherine, Elizabeth, Margaret, Daniel, and William who died young at 7 years.
Daniel Shanahan Jr. died October 3rd 1913 at 88 years.
Elizabeth (Scanlon) died August 28, 1873 at 42 years. Both Daniel and Elizabeth are buried in the Patty Settlement Cemetery, Hullett Township, Clinton.
Generation # 3
John Shanahan, son of Daniel Jr and Elizabeth, married Anne Mcintosh and had a large family, They had Mary (Mrs J Boyle), Charles, Elizabeth (Mrs F. McCaughtey), John (Jack), Joseph (Joe), Anne (Mrs J. Wilson), Ella (Mrs C. Smyth) and Aloysius (Wit)
John and Anne stayed and farmed the Shanahan farm on Concession #4 until there deaths.
John Shanahan died in 1939 at age 81
Anne Shanahan (Mcintosh) died in 1950 aged 83. Both are buried in Patty Settlement Cemetery, Hullett Township, Clinton.
Aloysius (Wit) son of John and Anne, married Hazel M Churchill, and had a large family. They had Donald (Don), Tom, Dan, Edna, Morris (who died young), Hazel-Anne, John, Jim, Charles (who died young).
Wit and Hazel worked the family farm until the government expropriated the land to make a provincial nature reserve. In the late 1960’s or early 70’s, they blew up the farm house, burnt down the barns and all that’s left is a drilled well, and if you know where to dig, a cement walkway to the side porch.
Wit, born May 11th 1907, died November 12th 1982 in his 75th year.
Hazel Marion Shanahan (Churchill) born October 15 1910, died March 30th 1984 in her 74th year. Both Wit and Hazel are buried in the Catholic Cemetery, Clinton Ontario.
Donald, son of Wit and Hazel, married Leota Freeman. They had three children, Kevin, Karen, and Kathy.
Don worked for the Bank of Montreal most of his life, but bought Grahams Bakery in 1977 until he retired in 1996. Don and Lee lived in locations all over Ontario when he worked for the bank, but stayed in Lindsay area once he bought the Bakery. They lived on Sturgeon lake up to his death in 2001. Lee now resides in Lindsay on Pottinger St.
Donald Shanahan is survived by his wife Leota (Lee).
Don, born November 2nd 1932, died August 25th 2001 and is buried in the Catholic Cemetery, Clinton Ontario.
Kevin Shanahan, son of Don and Leota, In 1983 married Donna (Parker) of Feversham Ontario, and had three kids, Monica, Matthew, and Michelle.
Kevin and Donna, bought the bakery in 1996 and with the help of two of there kids continues to operate to this day.
