Sharrock (Butchers) of Liverpool
My Great-Great-Great Grandfather was Thomas Sharrock b.1822 in Liverpool, Occupation Butcher. He married Margaret Bell in 1852
His son was also Thomas Sharrock (My Great-Great Grandfather) b.1852, Occupation also Butcher. He married Mary Billington in 1873.
Their daughter was Margaret Sharrock (My Great Grandma) b.1876
Margaret gave birth to my Grandfather, Alfred Sharrock b. Oct 1894 "Out of Wedlock" at 5 Leander Street, Liverpool. The trail then goes "cold".
My Grandfather Alfred was "given away" to a family named Matthews (William and Mary) as obviously Margaret couldn't keep him (no single mothers in those days). William Matthews was a "Finisher in Lairage" which basically means he cut up carcass in an abattoir for transportation. Probably Thomas Sharrock knew him from the trade and felt that this would be a good home for Margarets baby.
If any of this rings any bells whatsoever with anyones research, please reply. I am staring at a brick wall!
