I am drawing nothing but blanks trying to find information about a great grandmother I never knew:Nellie (May-?)Sheehan who married James Henry Devereaux (b.1872 Chicago)."Big Jim" Devereaux was a teamster driver for R.R. Donnelly printing company, and transitiooned from horses to horsepower. Nellie may have arrived in NY in 1889 (from County Limerick), but was married and settled into Chicago by the time of the 1910 census and remained there throughout the rest of her life. Her only surviving children were John James Thornton Devereaux (b. 1903 Chicago).Apparently Nellie LOVED the name Thornton, but I dont know why.Her other child was my maternal grandmother, Mary Laverne Devereaux (1910 - 2000, Chicago), who married Anthony Metke.
Can anyone lead me to background on Nellie?I believe she also worked in Chicago as a domestic, possibly for the Hartigan family?
