Thomas F. Sheridan
SPARTA — Thomas Farrell Sheridan, 78, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, at home.
Born in Passaic in 1927, to Thomas and Alice O'Dea Sheridan, he spent the first 32 years of his life in Rutherford before moving to Sparta 46 years ago.
He worked for A&P as a regional president and member of the board of directors for over 30 years, retiring in 1978. He opened the Sheridan's Lodge restaurant in 1978.
Mr. Sheridan was a member of the Lake Mohawk Golf Club, the Spartan Club, and was very involved in Sparta Little League Football and Baseball, and Sparta Babe Ruth Baseball.
He was predeceased by a son, Mark.
Mr. Sheridan was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Ely Sheridan; loving father of Mary Cooper of Sparta, Betty Rogers and her husband, Kevin, of Blacksburg, Va., Thomas Jr. and his wife, Criselda, of Andover Township, Edward and his wife, Darenda, of Short Hills and Robert and his wife, Donna, of Sparta; devoted grandfather of 11 grandchildren and cherished brother of Marilyn Sheridan and Mary Ann Rassmussen.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, on Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral mass will celebrate his life at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Sparta. Interment to follow at Sparta Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Karen Ann Quinlan Center for Hope Hospice, 99 Sparta Ave., Newton, N.J. 07860.
Carmelita Bautista Hall
HARDYSTON — Carmelita Bautista Hall, 82, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005 at Saint Clare's Hospital in Sussex.
Mrs. Hall was born in Manila, Philippines and had resided in Haskell for many years. She also resided in Ada, Mich., and most recently in Hardyston since 1998.
She was a secretary for St. Anthony's Guild in Paterson and also worked for the Department of the Navy as a civilian for many years. She later worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. in Paterson.
During the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines during World War II, Mrs. Hall would sneak quinine to her then husband, Joseph Miranda, who was a prisoner of war and a survivor of the Bataan Death March.
She acted as a surrogate mother to many Philippine emigrants in the northern New Jersey area for many years. She was a former parishioner and volunteer at Sta. Francis of Assissi R.C. Church in Haskell and a former parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. Roberts R.C. Church in Ada, Mich.
Mrs. Hall was predeceased by her husband of over 40 years, George, who died in 1996 and a son, Walter Miranda, who died in 2004.
She is survived by three daughters, Catherine Miranda Weeks of Hardyston, Nanci McCabe of Chatham and Patricia Knaut of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one son, Ernie Bautista of the Philippines; one sister, Julieta Davis of Redding, Calif.; 11 brothers in the Philippines, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 21, at 9:15 a.m. from Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon to Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Franklin for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Private cremation will follow.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Senior Center, Herzenberg Road, Franklin, N.J. 07416.
