Robin, Your e-mail address is no longer valid (20Mar02).Here is info I have on an Amos Shewmake. I have recently obtained two picture postcards of Shumakers, one is of a baby identified as Amos (1919).I believe they are related to my Mary Elizabeth Shoemaker, various spellings, that was the second wife of Joshua Thompson Holcomb/e, also various spellings.
One picture post card is of a young family; husband, wife, babe on lap. On the back is written: Mr. Eugene Shewmaker and wife and little son. Mrs. Clementine and Clyde Shewmaker. July 24, 1919. It is addressed to Luther Holcomb, Athens GA. No postmark. The second picture postcard is of a baby about 10 months or less, with Ammos Shoemaker written underneath. On back is written: "Well Mamie i will send you my boys picture. Mamie i like to get a card from you all. If you all dant come to see me your ant Hannah has got a big boy at her house. rite soon to your ant Clementine. It is addressed to Mifs Mamie Halcomb, Athens, GA." The handwriting differs on the cards.
It appears that Clementine has written, and sent, both cards, although the writing varies. I believe that Eugene and Hannah are the siblings of my Mary Elizabeth. How is Clyde and Clememtine related? From cemetery information I would say she was a mother to Eugene, or an aunt. I have pictures of these siblings: Mary Elizabeth, James (Jim), John that moved to MO, Hannah, and Eugene. Samuel and Roxie are the only (known) siblings of which we are missing photographs.
Here is the information I have on Mary and Joshua Holcomb:
