Hooray for the UK 1901 census online! I have found my great grandfather, Robert Shire, living in Chester, Cheshire, England. His place of birth is given as Ireland. This fits in with a conversation I once had with a now deceased aunt. She thought he came from somewhere sounding like Rosskeel. I have seen references to the Shire family and Rathkeale and I am wondering if anyone can help me trace his origins/birthplace/parents etc. What would be even more exciting would be to find Shire relatives still living!
Age in 1901 is given as 45. He was, by then married to Lucy aged 38. I think I may have found their marriage in 1886 in Cheshire ... this also fits in with conversations with my aunt.
By 1901 they had numberous children: George R - 14, Arabella H - 13, Florence E - 11, Henry F - 10, John A - 7, Robert W - 5 and Lucy May - 2(my grandmother)All appear to have been born in Chester.
Please does anyone have anything that may connect with my great grandfather Robert in Ireland and help me to take the next step back in time?
