My search continues for documentary evidence to prove exactly who my ancestors were. I have recently received the death certificate of my 2xg grandfather, Robert Shire. (Date discovered in a bible that had belonged to his son, Robert Nicholas Shire) Please can anyone help me to put this family in context and add any further information for me to check out?
Robert Shire b 1823-24 Ireland d 28th July 1870, Ballingrane. Farmer. (found one who fits in Griffiths) Witness at death: Julia M Shire - no relationship identified. Does anyone know who this is? I had hoped that his wife might be Arabella (found a marriage 7 July 1847 in Limerick of a Robert Shire to an Arabella Switzer but cannot yet prove that they are mine). Was Julia his wife, his sister, his daughter?
Son of Robert and ?: Robert Nicholas Shire b c 1856 Rathkeale, d Chester, Cheshire UK 1920. Married Lucy Harriet Thelwell in Shropshire, UK and then lived in Chester for the rest of their lives. Robert Nicholas's Irish Constabulary record identifies his religion as P (Church records? Which church?). (He was apparently 5'10''. Was this tall for the time? He also had very dark hair and beard.) Their first daughter was named Arabella Hannah (Hannah was Lucy Harriet's mother's name), first son was George Robert and another one of their sons was also named Robert Nicholas. (13 children in all)
I would really appreciate any help in adding further flesh to Robert b 1823-24. (Checked out Sparling and Julia's web sites).
