Bingo, my dear!!!I am a direct decendant of the James and Sarah you talk about and, while living in Virginia, found the parents of James AND the parents of Sarah with additional info on Sarah's parents that you won't believe (nothing sinister!!).
1) James' parents were James Shirkey (ca 1760/70) and his wife Margaret Beale (or Beals). They were married in Kanawha, Co.,VA (or now West Va., I believe) around 1800.I am still trying to tie this Jame's to Patrick Shirkey but have been unable to do so.
2) As you stated their son, James, married Sarah Haley on Jan. 23,1828 in Meigs Co, OH
3) Sarah's parents were Anthony Haley, b.1759, d.8/6/1842 and Mary Dennison b/d-?.They were married on 9/20/1785.
While living in VA., I was employed with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and used their library as a resouce for family tree exploration. From the Fauquier Co. VA., records, I obtained a copy of a marriage bond between Anthony Haley and James Dennison.Whether James is Mary's father or brother is unknown, but she could not enter the bond being female. The bond specifies that a sum of 50 Pounds Sterling be paid to the Govenor of Virginia, one Patrick Henry...great, huh????
The bond is nearly illegible, being handwritten, so I gave it to a John Ingram, a research scientist at Williamsburg and he translated it for me and gave me a copy of the statute that explains why the bond was necessary. The folks at the Foundation were not aware of this type of bond until I found this copy and gave it to them, so the Shirkey's, in some small part, have expanded the knowledge of our nation's past.
I would love to have you get ahold of me and perhaps we could compare notes and I could send copies of the bond, etc.
Looking forward to hearing from you, I am Sincerely yours,
Tarry L. Shirkey P.S. I also have much info on Anthony Haley's record in the Revolutionary War!!!
