In my Gilson research I have found a Shively connection through Joseph Wollam's sister, Hannah who was married to John Shivley and resided in Columbiana County, OH.The name Balser is from the Wollam line, Joseph's father was Johann Baltzer Wollam. It is found in many of the Wollam and related lines. My own g-grandfather Joseph "Joe" Gilson was named for Joseph Wollam.
Jacob Shivley, their son, married Matilda Gilson, who is many times listed as Gibson. I think she was the sister to my Richard Gilson (b. 1799)who moved from Columbiana County to Gallia County, Huntington Township in Ewington in 1853-1854. Richard named one of his daughters Matilda, and the name only appears in is the Gilson line. I think his sister was the reason Richard and his family moved to Gallia, and left his Columbiana farm to his brother to work.
I am trying to track down Matilda and Richard's parents. They also had a brother named David, b, (1805 maybe + 5 years)and either a sister-in-law, aunt, mother, or sister named Francis (Fanny)who lived next to Richard in Columbiana County in the 1840 census.Joseph Wollam jr, who also had a son named Balser, lived on neighboring propery too.
Please email me and let me know if any of this information rings true for you.Currently I am looking at Columbiana land record transactions looking for clues to Richard and Mathilda's parentage.
