SHIVELY-cousins all:per posting on GenForum the SHIVELY GENEALOGY FORUM by Ron Sheibley dated March 16th, 2000. Gives my great-great-great grandfather SAMUEL SHIVELY as the son of JACOB SHIVELY native of Switzerland who came to America c. 1750.This is correct. Is NOT Jacob's brother Daniel as I had conjectured. From the older cousins of my branch of the SHIVELY-family I had heard the family oral-tradition that TWO SHIVELY BROTHERS, seeking religious freedom, left the ALSACE- SWITZERLAND-GERMANY region from their native domicile of BASELLAND, SWITZERLAND, and came to America settling in LANCASTER CO., PENNSYLVANNIA.As to which brother our branch descends, DANIEL or JACOB, my elder cousins never did specify. As the letter "D" crops-up frequently in our branch of the SHIVELYs with the given-name of "David" possibly a clue pointing to said DANIEL coupled with the fact that my immediate SHIVELY-cousin, DAVID SHIVELY, has a son named DANIEL.And that DAVID's brother, Stephen Shively, also has a son named DANIEL.Thus, the given-name DAVID & DANIEL does reoccur within our branch of the SHIVELYs--but not Jacob. The logical conclusion being my branch of the IMMIGRANT TWO SHIVELY (SCHAUBLIN) BROTHERS natives of OBERDORF-WALDENBURG, BASELLAND, SWITZERLAND, we derive/descend from DANIEL SHIVELY rether than Jacob. This is how I came to the conclusion it was DANIEL--rather than his brother Jacob.BUT, considering the said posting of SHIVELY-cousin Ron Sheibley, our branch is CORRECTLY given as derived/descended from Daniel's brother said JACOB SHIVELY regards the EARLY LANCASTER CO., PENNSYLVANNIA- SHIVELYs. Too, per a letter dated November 27th, 1978, from my great- great Aunt GRACE ZELA SHIVELY Fauber (nee:SHIVELY), she records:"that my father, HENRY BENJAMIN SHIVELY, and U.S. SENATOR BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SHIVELY, of South Bend, Indiana, always corresponded AND KNEW THEY WERE RELATIVES TO EACHOTHER". your SHIVELY-cousin, Gregory Thompson--my gret-great-great grandfather is said SAMUEL SHIVELY, b. January 27, 1807, in LANCASTER CO., PENNSYLVANNIA, of a SWISS MENNONITE- BRETHERN (DUNKARD) ethnic & religious background.
