Henry and Elizabeth Shock's son,Jacob was born September 4, 1789.In 1803, when Jacob was 14 years old, he joined a hunting party over the hills into the Steer Creek Valley (Gilmer County, WV).Jacob liked the area so well that he settled there. On October 6, 1810, he married Mary Green, a daughter of Benjamin Green, who lived near the mouth of Laurel Creek, on Elk River above Sutton, WV.Prior to 1815 they moved to what is now Rosedale, WV. (Gilmer County).Jacob died May 7, 1876 and Mary died August 4, 1854.They are buried in the Methodist Church at Rosedale, WV.Their children are: Robert born April 12, 1813 and died May 3, 1878. Married Margaret Stump; Sarah born about 1814 and married Archibald Boggs; Alexander born March 9, 1815 in Nicholas County, WV. and died August 10, 1892.He married Eliza Stump on September 15, 1840.They were the first settlers in Shock, WV.; Elizabeth born about 1819; Dianna born about 1821 married Hezekiah Boggs; Mary born about 1822 married Jacob Stump; Jacob born about 1823 married Jemima Boggs; Eli born October 11, 1825 and died Dec 16, 1917.He married Susannah Stump; Mariah born about 1828 and married Alexander Meadows; Tabitha born about 1836 and married Warren Bourne; Perry born about 1838 and married Margaret Stout;and Rachel born about 1841 and married Melville Stump. Most of these remained in West Virginia.
