Hi Margaret,I am also stuck at the Anne Payne married to William Shorten in Bandan, Cork, Ireland. In the obit printed in the Fort Scott, Kansasnewspaper for Richard Shorten, Williams' son, it stated Richard came overfrom Bandan, Irelandas a child, taking seven weeks in a ship and landing in New Orleans, Louisiana.I have never been able to trace Williamn back to Ireland. I also, have never been able to find out the names of his wife's parents. I do know it stated they were teachers in Ireland and England. I did find William with his sons, Richard and William P. homesteading in Bourbon Co.,Kansas in 1860. I also found the original homestead papers in the Fort Scott, Kansas Court House. However, I have never foundWilliam's wife Anne or his daughters before 1870. I did find William P. Shortenand his siblings Sara , Johnand Jennine Eva living in Cherokee County, Kansas in 1870 after the Civil War.I searched Albia, Iowafor any info on Shortens as this is where it stated they finally landed after traveling up the Mississippi River. ..before they came down to Kansas Territory.Do you have any info on Anne Payne or her family?
