Hi Elizabeth,
As a result of family illness I have only just seen your message, I am posting this reply using my current login.
Your mother was born in 1925. Although registered in the Pontypridd registration district it may well be that she was born in the Treforest area (which falls within the Pontypridd registration district. The Williams name comes from her motherAnnie M. Williams. Although the Shroll surname is rare, by coincidence there were two distinct Shroll families in the Pontypridd registration district in the early years of the twentieth century. The Shroll family of Treforest (your family) came originally from Bedminster near Bristol. The Shroll family of Llwynypia, Tonypandy and Penygraig (my family) came previously from Bath, but originally from Shepton Mallet. It seems almost certain that the Bath and Bedminster families are fairly closely related and the the Shroll family of Bedminster also originated in the Shepton Mallet area. Some years ago myself and an Australian researcher, Helen, showed that all the Shroll families of England and Wales can be traced back to either Bath or Bedminster (apart from a few isolated individuals in the north of England where the name is possibly Sholes mis-spelled).
Bronwen was the daughter of John William G. Shroll born 1902 in Bristol. His father was Harry William Giles Shroll, born 1873 in Bedminster. His father was Henry Shroll born 1823 in Bedminster. His father was William Giles Shroll born 1781 in Bedminster. His father was another William Shroll.
Other fairly close relatives of yours are also interested in family history, including Alan Tipper who is your mother's first cousin.
I have more details, including female lines. I'll send these on shortly.
Ian.
