As if I needed another lesson in not posting at 3 o'clock in the morning... or, rather, depending on my memory when I'm that fatigued.
Sarah SIAS, w/o George SMITH, was born in 1805/6, not 1807/8.[She was 44 in the 1850 census.]
I hope I don't appear argumentative here. You did ask me for my reasoning. But it's not my place to badger you into accepting my position.I've presented my case. You are certainly free to accept or reject it.
If anyone has access to the early Orleans Co., VT, censuses (pre-1850 -- the 1850 census is online at GenealogyLibrary.com), the numerical data for James & Patience's records should shed some light on the numbers, genders, and ages of their children. So, why don't I get the records myself? I'm waiting for them to appear online.
Ancestry.com has promised to have page images for the entire census online by March of 2000 (all years, all states). At the rate they are putting schedules online, I'm not optimistic they will meet their promised deadline, but based on the images they have online so far, the quality of the images -- which are 256 shades of grey, not B&W -- makes the wait worth it, even if it takes all of 2001 to get the job done.
