I recently got my hands on a copy of a family history written by the most excellent Deborah King.Here is information that she compiled in 1994:
Jacob F. Siefert was born on January 16, 1845 in Adams Twp, Ripley Co., IN.His parents were Dominick and Franciska (Schafer) Siefert.Census records indicate that he was attendig school at the age of 15.
Jacob was 22 when he married Mary P. Fisse in June of 1867.After their marriage they lived next door to Mary's parents, John H. Fisse and Elizabeth (Wessel) Fisse, both of German descent.They lived in Oldenburg, Franklin Co., IN.Mary was born March 17, 1850 in Indiana.
The Sieferts moved to Shelbyville, Shelby Co. in 1872 to 220 East Hendricks St.Jacob was a skilled carpenter who wored for the Hodell Furniture Co.
Mary died in 1883 in Shelby Co. and is buried in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Shelbyville.
Jacob and Mary had seven children: Frank Anthony Dominic (b. 20 May 1868), John H.B. (b. 20 May 1870), Anna M.E. (b. 20 Nov 1873), Edward William (b. 17 Feb 1875), Charles J. (b. 11 Mar 1877), Herman William (b. 5 May 1879) and August Emel "Gus" (b. 23 May 1881).
After Mary (Fisse) Siefert's death, Jacob's sister, Philomena (Siefert) Fisse moved into Jacob's house to help him rear the children.Philomena was married to Mary (Fisse) Siefert's brother, John Henry Fisse.He died around the same time as Mary.
Jacob Siefert remarried four years later on 11 Oct 1887 to Mary Elizabeth Bath.MEB was born in Highland Center, Franklin Co., IN on 1 Jul 1854, the daughter of Nicholas Bath and Rachel Mary (Getz) Bath.Jacob and MEB had five children: Nicholas Harry (b. 16 Jul 1888), Anna Mary (b. 26 Mar 1890), Louis Hoover (b. 27 Mar 1892), Oscar Silverder Reinnold (b. 30 Dec 1893) and Bertha Hazel (b. 17 Mar 1896).
A substantial monument for Jacob and his wives is at the St Joseph Catholic Cemeter, Shelby Co. and there are pictures on findagrave.com.
