Silcox - Safford
I am looking for Cheryl who is researching Philinda Susan Safford Silcox. She believes that Philinda was born 1830 in Kentucky to Willard Safford. She also said in a message on another site, that Philinda was married to John Sillcocks/Silcox and lived in Woodstock, Oxford, Ontario, Canada from 1861 on.They had a son, Bertram James born in Syracurse, NY in 1860.Death record gives her name as 'nee Safford', and father's name as Willard Saffrey.
My cousin and I believe that she is the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Prouty) Safford, born in New York and not Kentucky (records are full of errors) and a sister to our ancestrial grandfather, Willard Safford who also lived in Woodstock around 1861.Willard was born in 1829 in Solon, Cortland, New York, family moved to Layton, Lewis Co., New York and to Palermo, Oswego Co., New York where a 12 yr. old boy named James Silcox lived with Joseph and Sarah (1850 or 1860)in Oswego Co. Our first thought that perhaps this James was a son of Philinda but with the age he may have been a younger brother of John Silcox boarding with or working for Joseph and Sarah Safford who was getting up there in years by this time.
Joseph and Sarah had several daughters, but all were gone from home by the time the census records started recording each name of the household members, and we have been unable to identify any of them.
