I've been working on my dad's geneology, and now it's time to do more work on my mom's. My maternal grandfather was Henry R. Simonds, born circa 1870. He was the owner of a furniture store, and then became an Advent Christian minister. He was the pastor of a church in Maine and was a 48yr old widower when he married Irene Whitney, my maternal grandmother. She was 20 years younger.
They are both buried in Biddeford/Saco, Maine. I know he was pastor of an AC church in CT, as well.
If anyone has any info on his parents and/or ancestors, I'd love to hear from you. I will be visiting my Mom this weekend and will find out if she has any more information that she has not yet given to me.
Sideline quirks ~ 1. my father was a Chapman, whose first ancestor in the New World, Edward Chapman, arrived in Boston in the 1630s and married a Mary SYMONDS, dau of Mark Symonds. 2. I am a descendant of Edward's son Nathaniel. Jonathan Chapman (Johnny Appleseed) was the descendant of another one of Edward's sons. Johnny Appleseeds parents were a Capt Nathaniel Chapman and Elizabeth SIMONDS.
So, I'm not interested just in finding out more about my grandfather's family, but am hoping eventually to be able either to connect (or rule out a connection to) each of my various Simonds/Symonds family branches.
