John Simonton of Chester CO, PA, sent for and brought to this country from County Antrim, Northern Ire., his nephew, William Simonton, a lad of 10 years. From WM, our branch of the Simontons originated."Later, my greatgrandfather was also William who married Victoria Maria McCullough in 1872 in Tyler CO,West VA.Our information about how these Simontons got from Chester Co. (west of Philadelphia) to WVa is sketchy.Historically, there was a great migration of people of Irish descent from Pennsylvania southward into what was then western Virginia and the Shenandoah during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and I'm sure the Simontons were part of that.BTW, there are Simontons still in Ulster; relatives visited there and met some of them in the 1980s.
