Death of John Schlarbaum, a well known resident of this county, at his home in Walnut Township, the 28th ult. Native of Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, and was born February 17, 1838. When a child of four years he came to the new world with his parents and grew to manhood in Canada. Came to Henry County, Iowa in 1865 and a year later to Jefferson County where he was married to Miss. Catherine Sinn in 1866. Four children: Mrs. Etta Brown at Nichols; Alexander, Frank and Ella Schlarbaum with the widowed mother...Remains interred in the Lutheran cemetery near Germanville.

Last rites for Mrs. Kate (Sinn) Schlarbaum who died Sunday morning at her home five miles southeast of Brighton, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Lutheran Church near Germanville, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Schlarbaum was one of the older residents of that community and had she lived until June she would have been 90 years old. Her husband John Schlarbaum, died a number of years ago. She is survived by four children, Frank, Ella and Alex of near Brighton, and Mrs. Etta Brown of near Davenport.
