On my SIRR Family database, I have an Edward Hoare Sirr and the following information (I am an Australian Sirr so it is of great interest to me, and I would be keen to know if you have any connection to the SIRR family)
Re Edward Hoare Sirr, the IGI says born about 1819.Trinity College, Dublin, B.A. 1845.Barrister at Law in London.Died s p (?)
The City of Dublin Directory 1850 has a reference to Edward H Sirr, as does the Law Directory1846
The St Catherines Marriage Index has a Edward Hoare Sirr being married in the March to June quarter of 1853
There is a death record in the Victoria (Australia) Pioneers Index (1837-1888) which states a Edward Hoare Sirr, born Hampshire, England, died aged 58, in 1873 (therefore born circa 1815). reg number of death was 3568.His parents were listed as Joseph Darce Sirr (I think its meant to be D'Arcy) and Elizabeth. In my data most of the children of Joseph D'Arcy Sirr and Elizabeth Sirr of England were born in Hampshire. I believe this is the same Edward Hoare Sirr.
The Australian Edward Hoare Sirr practiced law in Victoria and is mentioned as a pioneer lawyer in the "The Goldern Years of Stawell" by Robert Murray and Kate White (ISBN 0 85091 176 1).It says he was in this town in the 1860's.
Another death in the Victoria register was Annie Sirr, died aged 50 in 1882, at Richmond (Melbourne?) Victoria, reg number 3083.
Using the Victorian register this Edward was born circa 1815, Annie born circa 1832. Birth date for Edward a bit out compared to the IGI,Married couple?
There is an inward bound passenger for Victoria Australia listed as Mrs Sirr, aged 28, arrival date May 1864 on Straatsraad Houven, Port F, Fiche 095, page 001. (Therefore born circa 1836)There were two Sirr children aged 1 & 4 who were accompanying her. although her age is out by 4 years, possibly same one.
Death details above for the Annie Sirr were very vague, parents unknown etc, aged at death might have been guessed, therefore making her 32 in 1864.
Pamela, I'm guessing that The Mrs Sirr on the ship was Annie Sirr and that she was married to Edward Hoare Sirr who had earlier came out from England and they both died here. The interesting thing is that not one of the Australia Sirrs is descended from him or her.I dont know what happened to the children if my guess that the women are the same one is right. Maybe I should look up the Victoria adoption records to see if there were any adopted after Annies death. If you are wanting to get more precise info please let me know what it is as I may have some here.
