I'm the David Hudelson who posted in Re the Sittons; My gg grandmother was Elizabeth Pendleton Sitton (b. 1804 Smith County, TN, died unknown Lincoln County, MO, married James Wilson), daughter of Phillip Sitton and granddaughter of Joseph T. Sitton(d. 08 Feb 1832 Lincoln County, MO).I have Enid Wells Sitton's book, "Sitton and Gibson Genealogy," and also Bert Sitton's data base.I tend to doubt that Joseph T. was born in Culpeper, VA, and I have serious questions about the identity of his mother.Enid Sitton and other sources say her name was Elizabeth Pendleton, not the Elizabeth Pindel who married Phillip Sitton and is said to have born Joseph T. Sitton. If in fact his mother was Elizabeth Pindel, the question arises: Whence came the middle name of James Wilson's wife, Pendleton?
In visits to Pendleton District, SC, I discovered land purchases and sales (witnessed by John Sitton) by Phillip Sitton "of Henderson County, NC," but never found evidence that this Phillip ever lived in SC.It is my belief that Joseph T. Sitton and his son Phillip moved from NC (not SC) to Missouri, via Smith County, TN.I'm not a Sitton genealogist (though I was acquainted with Bert Sitton before his death), and I don't know what connection (if any) the Sittons of Orange County, NC had with the Sittons of Henderson/Buncombe NC; I think Joseph T. Sitton came from the latter group.
I plan to be in Raleigh, NC on 05 Aug, working in the archives there (not on Sittons, though.)If it's convenient, I'd welcome a chance to meet you.My cell phone is 828-708-2191.Dave
