Hi Lorena,
I have searched and searched for Susannah, Mark, and Lourinda Mann Sizelove on the 1870 census.Where on earth could they be?I'm sure it's a spelling problem, but I've tried every variation I can think of and still come up empty.
I descend from Andrew and Hannah McNeely Hill's oldest child, John Hill.Until recently the only information I had on John's siblings was from an old letter that my great grandmother had written to my grandfather listing John's siblings as: William, Mark, Rachel, and Mary. She stated that they were from Bath, Illinois.I was thrilled when I accidently found this family, with the correct names and even the same birth order listed with their parents on the 1850 Shelby Co., In. Census. In 1860 they were in Menard Co., Il.
By 1860, my John was a farm hand on his future father-in-law's (step-father, actually; George Haskell Wicker) property in Atchison Co., Ks.John Hill married Sarah Byram Roberts 21 Aug 1860.They had four children and John died in 1870 just a few months before the birth of his fourth child, my great grandfather, John Henry Hill.I have been unable to locate a grave or even a date or cause of death.Sarah remarried to Jacob Jerome Swisher in 1871 and had six more children. When he died, she married William Douglass - no children.
Many years ago I spoke with the Mason Co., Il historian who found some limited information for me about Susannah Sizelove and Mark D. Hill. They married 30 Dec 1866 in Mason Co., Il.She died 29 Dec 1879 at Bath and is buried in Mason Co.I obtained that information from the Circuit Court Clerk of Mason Co., Il.
My information, mostly derived from the same census records that you list shows that Mark and Susannah had six children: John, Lizzie, Orman, Ida, female Infant, and Charles. It appears that the baby girl and Charles were twins and that the little girl died in Dec 1879 as did her mother.Does that correspond and agree with what you know about this family?
After Susannah's death Mark remarried, to Hannah Barger (aka Johanna Behrens) 14 Jun 1883 at Mason City, Mason Co., Il.She was born 20 Oct 1861 in Germany and died 29 Nov 1927 at Peoria.Mark died 10 Apr 1903 at Peoria.Mark and Hannah had seven children: Josie, William, Vinie, Frederick, Florence, Bessie & Pearl.
Of John Hill's other siblings I have sketchy information.
I have nothing further about William, although there are two in the Bath area, either one could be him, but I don't know which.
Rachel married Thomas Sartain, 20 May 1861 in Mason Co., Il.They had the following children: William, Belle, John, Minnie, Thomas, Alberta, Lulu, Goldie, Molly, and Clifford.I haven't located Rachel and Thomas in 1870, but in 1880 they are in Sterling, Rice Co., Ks.In 1900, she is a widow in Milks Grove, Iroquois Co., Il.
Mary married George Bishop about 1868 and they had at least the following children: Charles, Clyde, & Eva.
In 1870 George and Mary are found in Hartford, Iowa Co., Ia. Her mother is living with them.In 1880, they are in Sigourney, Keokuk Co., Ia. Hannah is still with them, but suffering from asthma.
