I'm reviewing my data looking for additional information.Someone had asked about Anna Skiff so I revisited my data.Supposedly Shubal died April 25, 1840; Asa died in 1823 - how did Asa marry his brother's widow????This is from Buttons in America.
.220.127.116.11--SHUBAL BUTTON, born Apr. 30, 1771 at Canterbury, Conn.; died Apr. 25, 1840. He married (1st) ca. 1795 Polly Tower, born June 15, 1769; died Mar. 2, 1818, daughter of Elijah Tower of Hingham, Mass. He married (2nd) Apr. 9, 1822 Anna Skiff, born 1796; died Oct. 15, 1857. Shubal died in Fredonia, N. Y.; after his death, the widow remarried to Asa Button, Shubal's brother. Shubal was first a farmer, later becoming a lumberman on the Susquehanna river before the War of 1812. He lost heavily financially by reason of the embargo, during the war. Both Shubal and Anna are buried in Pioneer Cemetery near Fredonia, N. Y. 18.104.22.168.9--ASA BUTTON, born Jan. 17, 1765; died Aug. 27, 1823. He married (1st) Pamela Patten (or Pattern); she died May 12, 1814 age 42. He married (2nd) Anna (Skiff) Button, widow of his brother Shubel. Children of the first marriage were probably born at Haverhill, Mass.; however he lived also for many years in East Windsor, Conn. The son, Asa Phelps is listed in one record as the son of an Asa and Sarah (Luce) Button. Whether Asa Phelps Button was different from the son Asa, of this Asa or whether there is another Asa is not known
