I am part of the Skilbeck family from Yorkshire. My father and his parents and going back many years lived in a village called Hunmanby, near Filey.
The Skilbeck name has a history in these parts, as the Lord Of the Manor in Filey used to have his fishing rights set by a Skilbeck.
The way this used to work was the eldest male in the Skilbeck line would ride a horse out into Filey bay, then throw a special javelin or spear as far as he could. Where this landed formed the boundary for the Lord. My great grandfather was the last to perform this task.
I take it you are related to the Skilbecks you are searching for in some way?
I have elderly relatives still in Hunmanby that know much more about the family history....
