"Diana and Sir Grey both emigrated to Virginia sometime after the Civil War in England. The exact date of their emigration is not known, but it is usually given as between 1652 and 1655"
"Documentary evidence also shows that Katherine Dale, born 1652 (sometimes called Katherine Dale Carter because of her marriage into the Carter family) could not (because of her birth date) have been the daughter of Edward Dale and Diana Skipwith but that she must have been the daughter of Edward Dale by marriage to a former wife whose name is not recorded. Documents refer to her as the "eldest daughter" of Edward Dale."
I have admittedly not looked into this personally. However, the stated above does not prove anything to me one way or another. I am a searcher of truth - and unfortunately a cynic. It's quite possible, given the dates above, that Katherine was born out of wedlock. A recorded marriage proves nothing one way or another of what does or does not go on behind closed doors.
I would love to see, either way, anything definitive that could point to another marriage, or even an illicit relationship, that produced Katherine whom Edward definitely seems to claim as his own offspring.
My gedmatch # is M222551 if anyone else with a dna test would like to compare. I have found via proven papertrails to other relatives that reducing cM's does show shared segments far back into time. I'm game to see what does or does not show up. :)
