I have only recently been researching my Slaton family back beyond my Grandfather Thomas Guthrie Slaton (b. 6 July 1872) who died from complications of flu at age 47 in July 1919, leaving a wife and 9 children.I have saved a good bit of information on Sidney and members of the Louisiana Slaton family, as I felt there veryprobably was a connection.
Thomas Guthrie Slaton's father was John Slaton, and this I know only because a deceased family member had a copy of the obituary for my grandfather Thomas Guthrie Slaton. It is thought that his mother might have been a Franks, but noone knows for sure.
As a child I heard my father and his siblings discussing oil property in the Louisiana marshes belonging to their Slaton ancestors from a land grant. They always thought sooner or later the legal issues would be resolved and the heirs would get a settlement. It never happened.I knew all of my father's brothers and sisters, but beyond their generation I never met any of Thomas Guthrie Slaton's relatives. His father did live a distance from him (maybe another part of Texas or Oklahoma, and his mother died rather young, and John Slaton remarried and had additional children.
Thus, there is a big void of information.I'm a novice at genealogy research, but know I will have to try to get a death certificate for John Slaton, and hopefully find where he was from before Texas -- then find census records, which hopefully will tell me more.
If anyone recognizes any of this information that can be linked to other Slatons, would appreciate your posting the information.
