Hi Robert, thank you for responding. My information comes mainly from my father's cousin Alan Slayne and from my research on the internet.I came across some of your input re the Pedigree Resource File? and have used a combination of all three although I think we differ over some dates. I'm second guessing that your interest lies with Ann Wilmot Slayne born 1852 to William and Charlotte Elizabeth nee Standrick. My roots lie with her younger brother Henry born 1856 who in 1881 married Mary Jane Gay (Swindon). They had 12 children and their 4th child Annie was my father's mother. Five of their children were born in Swindon, the other seven were born either in Portskewett or Sudbrook which are near Chepstow Monmouthshire.
A lot of Alan's information is taken from the various Bristol parish registers and trade directories. He too found the earliest record of the name Slayne to be 1794.
