I am interested in the Slemp family as my aunt married and quickly divorced a Bascom Slemp. When I was growing up she would never talk about him.I would love to know if you know anything about this person.Details are-------- On 12/31/1929 in El Dorado, KS. (Grace) Loretta Russell age 23 was married to M. C. Bascom Slemp III.They were married at home of Mr and Mrs James Beattie Smith.(no idea who that is)Also present was a Mr. Ames Gill.Again no idea who that was. From newspaper article...."Mr. Slemp, who has been in the sales department of the Skelly Oil Company since September 1928, has made a solid place for himself in the social and business life of El Dorado. Before coming here he attended Augusta Military Acadamy in Fort Defiance, VA, the Virginia Military Institute at Lexington, VA and later the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, where he was assistant to the dean of the university.Mr. Slemp engaged in the oil business in Virgina for a short time before coming to El Dorado. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Slemp of Marion, VA; his grandfather, C. Bascom Slemp, was a congressman from the ninth district in Virginia and was succeded in that office by Mr. Slemp's uncle, C. Bascom Slemp, who seerved as congressman and later as secretary to Calvin Coolidge, when Mr. Coolidge was president ot the United States."
