Can anyone help me identify the extended family forward and back of one George SMAIL who appears in the 1850 U.S. Census for Fountain County, Indiana, Richland Township? He is listed as age 21 years of age, a salesman, born in Ohio.
I have a photo of an elderly, well dressed, Smail man and written upon it is: "Granpa SMAIL."I guess the era to be 1890-1900 and he has a long, grey beard and vested suit of clothing. His watch fob looks as if it has a Masonic emblem upon it.
I received this photo from the family of Jesse Maude PERRY (deceased). She married Eli Roscoe SHELBY and lived most of her live in Parke and Vermillion Counties in Indiana. These counties are contiguous with Fountain County, Indiana, thus the query about George SMAIL, above.Jesse Maude [PERRY] SHELBY, also lived for many years in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois which is just across the Wabash River from Fountain County, Indiana.Jesse Maude Perry's father was John Wesley Perry, born 1850 in North Carolina. Her mother was Mary Ward, born in Indiana.
Can you assist?I am willing to e-mail a copy of the photo to anyone interested in viewing it. Let's get 'granpa' SMAIL identified.
