This may help... It could be that a typhoid or yellow fever epidemic claimed many lives in this area in 1872.Some of my FANCHER relatives also died in this time frame & a DR.friend who has some interest inAlabama history mentioned that when I asked him about it.
At this point I don't know much about the SMITHERMAN-FANCHER marriages in my BIbb Co, AL line...but have a picture or two w/ some SMITHERMAN names written on the back. The picture looks like a 1930's work crew - maybe lumber jacks.It says: Samuel Newton Smitherman's work crew. Listed are" Henry Marvin Smitherman, Henry Morgan Smitherman, Owen Lawley & 2 FANCHER men.
Also have another pic. from abt. 1955 or so with a Fitts Smitherman & my dad in it. This Fitts was supposedly raised in Bibb Co., or near Montevallo.
