Steve, sorry I have no real help for you, but I was going to suggest that you check in Louisa, and then Hanover and New Kent, as those were the counties where migration occurred. The Clarks were in Louisa at an early date.Since the son was named Chapman, I would follow that as a surname, but you have probably already thought of that.I know that the Holmans were in Hanover, Goochland, and Henrico, as my husband has connections there. If your trail leads to Hanover, you may be stuck, as there are so few surviving records.Perhaps you are aware, but the Hanover records were burned during the Revolution. Then when the Civil War came along, the Hanover records were sent on to Richmond for safekeeping, where unfortunately, they burned a second time.I do know that there are others in Hanover researching the Snead line, so maybe that is your source. The Holmans and Pollards were fairly prominent families, so you may find some information through their personal records.Have you tried the Virginia Historical Society? They have many family histories and thousands of Bible records and manuscripts.Happy hunting!
