A Garland Snead is also shown in the 1870 Census for Richmond Co., Georgia. He is listed with a Minister, James H. Dixon, and others. He was shown as 37 years old, born in Georgia, and an Attorney.Undoubtedly he is the same Garland you described from the 1880 Census.
A Garland A. Snead (with John A. and Julia Snead, probably his parents) is also listed in the 1860 Census for Richmond Co., GA. This Garland was shown as 29 years old, born in Georgia, and an Attorney.Again, this would appear to be the same Garland from the 1870 & 1880 Richmond Co. Census.
I have looked at this Garland before to see if we could somehow connect him to the Dianah Snead's Garland. His age is a good bit off.Dianah's Garland was born in about 1840 (per 1850 & 1860 Cherokee Co., AL Census). The Garland from Richmond Co., GA would have been born 1830-1834 based on the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Census. Thus their "census" ages are about 10 years off.
The age differences alone would not absolutely rule the Richmond Co. and Dianah's Garland out as the same person. Ages listed in the census are often dubious. However, his listing in Richmond Co., GA in 1860 would seem to rule him out as Dianah's Garland.Dianah's Garland is listed (Age 19, Occ - Day Laborer) with her in Cherokee Co., AL 1860 US Census.
Bottom line is that I do not believe it very likely that these are the same Garland Snead. As I mentioned in another response to this query, he was more likely the G. H. Snead killed in 1862 in Virginia during the Civil War.
