Hello, I have just located this site which looks very exciting as it is the first time I have actually found anyone searching the Shoreditcxh and London area, namely John Barry and Jan. The earliest reference I have is 1541 in Wiltshire where I believe the family originated. In reply to some of the information I would like to add:- James Henry (or Hernery) born 1803 Bethnal Green was the first child of James and Ann Birch and was one of nine children. James, wife of Ann Birch was born c1778 and he was a baker, he died 13 October 1849 at Stepney aged 71. I know nothing more about James`s roots, siblings or parents, does anyone please? William, sone of Stephen and Amy Aldrich - I do not have a child of theirs named Alice (any more details of Alice please?) An Alice I have was born 1862 and married Robert Puryer, was the daughter of William born 1832 and Amelia Drew. Doed anyone have any details of William born 1808 and presumably his wife Sarah Adams of when and where from they emigrated to Australia. I have record of them only up to 1855. Also did they take their four sone, James Henry, Henry, John and George as I can only follow the other five children afterwards. Last year, I also visited 115 Curtain Road to find just open grass land where the pub was. All that remained were the outside toilets so I have a photo of them (different anyway isn`t it, ha-ha) when did you go to visit Jan? I believe the pub was bombed during WW11 and yet the pub only a couple of doors away is still there, just our luck. I was also disappointed with the gravestones at St. Leonards, I was certain I would find some reference to a Snellgrove after all those Births, Deaths and Marriages which took place there. I had a long talk with the vicar who had not even heard the name. I took photos of the church and the font, also I took photos of the shop in Hackney Road where they had the tailors business, it was a closed down shoe shop but still there. My line descends from William born 1808 and Sarah Adams to their son William born 1832 who married Amelia Drew then Grace Fearn and down to the present day. I anyone searching the same line? Any information would be most welcome or if I can be of any help I would be very pleased to do so. Happy searching. Margaret Snellgrove.
