Marsha, this is what I have learned about America Snelling, from my just finished eBook, The Family of William Snelling and Sarah Scott, a greatly enlarged version of my 2001 printed book:
America "Mecky" "Mecca" Snelling, born Feb 1856, Panola County, Mississippi, married 1 Nov 1882, Bremond, Robertson County, Texas, James Washington White, born 11 Feb 1838, Greene County, Alabama, died 14 Feb 1894. Mecca died 25 Feb 1923. Both died in Franklin, Robertson County, Mecca at the home of Rev John Whitfield Stephen (page 122), a cousin. This was the America Snelling who was recorded as the 24-year-old niece of William's sister Althea Druscilla Snelling (below) in the 1880 census of Robertson County, Texas, By 1900 Mecca was a widow living in Franklin School District, Robertson County, with her three living (of five) children, a boarder, and her aunt Eliza J Snelling (page 107). Eliza, by then 85, was still with Mecca in 1910 in Justice Precinct 6 of Robertson County. Mecca was not found in 1920. Mecca’s children all died before their mid-20s. One wonders if they did not have some sort of an inherited problem NOTE: Many of the details of this material on America Snelling and her children was taken from an Internet site; most has been confirmed from other sources. The site did misidentify Mecca's parents.
Would you like a copy of the book? It is .pdf format, about 7.8 MB.
