Yose (Joseph) SOOY born April 1685 in Holland, probably of French parents, died 28 Sept 1737; came to America about 1705. He was a mariner-merchant and carried on the work started by the Duch West India Company.
Married Sarah VAN TIENHOVEN; moved to New Jersey and became a naturalized loyal citizen of the Province of New Jersey by special act of the New Jersey legislature. He sailed down the coast of New Jersey in his ship and entered the Mullica River and settled at what is now Lower Bank founded in 1645, the first white settlement in South Jersey after Fort Nassau. Here he carried on trade and shipping. And with his sons, purchased thousands of acres of land in Washington Township.
