We seem to share some mutual ancestors. My g.g.grandmother was Medora Cotton, married to William Brooks Field (yes, her name became Medora Cotton Field). Her parents were Sarah Elizabeth Sorsby and John Alexander Cotton.
Sarah (or Elizabeth), b. 1819 in Madison Cty., Ms.,was the daughter of Samuel K. Sorsby and "Mrs. Matilda Sorsby" (she was not Matilda Wilkinson...their marriage was prior to 1834).
Samuel K. Sorsby (b. about 1788)was the son of William Sorsby, (b. about 1770, d. about 1791), and Elizabeth Kirkland, (b May 17, 1772, d. November 6, 1833, Gayosa, Jefferson, Ms), both of Fairfield District, SC. After William's death about 1791, Elizabeth married Everard Green of Natchez, Ms.
I would appreciate information you may have about the Sorsbys.Medora's husband William was descended from a signer of the Declaration of Independence and one reference states that Medora is also descended from a "signer", but haven't been able to locate him through the Sorsby or Cottons yet.
