Benjamin South, Mary Wendel Searcy in Kentucky
I am trying to clear up some confusion about the Benjamin South married to Mary (Wendel) Searcy in Kentucky 10 Oct 1819.Contrary to most information out there, I do not believe this is the same Benjamin South from New Jersey that was married to Elizabeth Bennett and Mary Bennett.According to census records, this Benjamin and his second wife Mary moved from New Jersey to Ohio and then on to Shelby Indiana in 1850 and he shows up as a widower in 1870 in Cumberland Illinois living with his son, Jacob SC South. There is no evidence that he ever went to Kentucky.
Therefore, I believe that the Benjamin South married to Mary Wendel Searcy in Kentucky was not the Benjamin South from New Jersey.I have researched all the information available out on the internet and cannot find a link to any of the South's in Kentucky. What I do know is that Mary Wendel's first husband Bennett Searcy was in Kentucky and that his father, Reuben Searcy served with a John South in the Kentucky legislature in 1793.So, I know there has to be a connection somewhere.
Ultimately I am trying to find the parents of my ancestor, Allen H South who was born in 1824 in Kentucky.Any information would be greatly appreciated.
