I found this on Ancestry.com But the email contact is no longer valid. Does anyone have this info?
I, too, am chasing Souths in Washington Co. VA. Specifically, trying to locate the parents of Mack South, b. abt 1863 in Friendship (Washington Co.), VA. Mack married Margaret/Maggie Lloyd (or Wilson?) Dec 14, 1888 and had 4 children: Bette b. abt 1890 Elcie Jane b. 1892 Walter Gibson b. 1894 Mary (May) Blanch Mack died in 1944. His obituary lists the following survivors: "4 sisters, Mrs. May Brumit, Mrs. Baker Hagy, and Mrs. Rose Holliday, all of Johnson City, TN, and Mrs. Felix Shew, Glade Spring Va; 3 brothers, Harvey South, Johnson City, Harry South, Louisville, KY, and Jess South, Johnson City..."
Does anyone have any ideas? There is a census listing from 1900 that includes a Harvey, Rosa, Jesse, Mary, and Harrie (along with 3 other youngsters) living with John M, aged 72, and Jennie J, aged 43. Mack could have been the child of an earlier marriage of John?
here's my line Harry South Was my Great Grandfather. He was Married To a Clyde Price. Their Children Were as follows: Curtis L. South Roger Harve South William Ray South Helen V. South (Godsey) Dorothy South (Collins, Grens) All of them are dead except Helen and she is my grandmother. My grandmother told me that Harry had Brothers, Harvey, William, George, Blake and Jess.. Sisters Georgia, rose, mary, pearl, and Josie, ANd she said something about a Looney(Not sure how spelled) some of these could be inlaws. And she was pretty sure her grandfather was John Something. Seems way to similar to not be connected. How much do you have? Let me know GINA
