November 11, 1881 Henrietta, Nov. 3 Some parties coming from Wichita Falls this morning discovered a wagon and a team standing in a gully near the road and in it a man apparently dead. They reported to authorities and the coroner proceeded to the place, found from papers on the body that his name was J. SOUTHWARD.He was shot three times, wrist, abdomen and side. His pockets were turned inside out. His pocket book with about $1.10 was found by him, his silver watch was in his pocket, and a knife and pocket pistol with one chamber discharged. He was apparently about 65 years old. It was ascertained he was from Forestburg, Montague County and was en route to Wichita Falls where he was about to open a store. The opinion is that he was murdered for money which he was supposed to have on his person.
