Hi, I am a decedent of Rev. George Spangenberg and along with a couple other family members have done a lot of family research on our line. I am always willing to share my information if you email me at email@example.com.
I have found two issues that may prevent us from getting any further back than Rev. George Spangenberg. One was found when researching Klettenberg. Klettenberg still exists as part of a region near Frankfurt. Rev. George and his son are considered major figures in the history of Klettenberg. The information I read after it was translated stated Rev. George's parents died during the Black Plague (translated as Black Dye). It stated that almost half of the population died by the Black Plague. Therefore, it may be very difficult to obtain records during that period. I have written to see if I can get further information.
The second issue we run into is related to the name Spangenberg. During the medieval times, those living around the castle took on the last name of the person living in the castle. Therefore, a lot of Spangenbergs can be unrelated.
If you would like further information on the Rev. George line, just email me. Thanks, Marcia Spangenberg Thompson
