My grandmother's parents came from the border area of Westphalia and Hannover.Steffen Heinrich Spieker b. 1818 in Westerkappeln, Westphalia and Catherina M. Juengling b. 1830 in Bramshe, Hannover. The two towns were about 10 miles apart. They immigrated to the US (Pittsburgh) in 1848 and were married there. My grandmother Eliza was born in Pennsylvania, married John Sullivan in 1880.They lost the first two children, possibly to the Pittsburgh pollution of the day.The first surviving child, Clare, was born in April 1882 in Minnesota, the only one of the 10 surviving children to be born outside of Pennsylvania.Possibly my grandmother, Eliza (Spieker) Sullivan delivered Clare in the healthier climate of Minnesota, staying with some of her German cousins. If any of your research shows some reference to Sullivan kin, let me know.Allied names to the Spieker family are Boye, Bunemeier, Sievert, Sander, Macke and Lindemann.
