I should have added that Capt. Wm. Drake Spike was alleged to have never married. I will check the 1775 tax assessments, - but Elizabeth Spike, wife of Charles Spike,was not widowed until 1777. She was the administratrix of her husband Charles Spike's estate, and the estate was valued at over 200 pounds, - which was considerable at that time. Charles Spike was a master carpenter. By inference, Wm. Drake Spike was a brother of Charles Spike, as Charles Spike's son Daniel was Wm. Drake Spike's nephew.
