James, With a middle name of Sarah "Boucher" Spilman, I can honestly tell you this is the English Spilman family from Culpepper County, Virginia that migrated to Allen County, Kentucky in the 1790's.Tom Spilman married Mary Massey.
I went to Allen County KY this past Spring and found a survey map in the name of Peter Boucher and Thomas Spillman, both surveys dated 1793 which was before Kentucky became a Commonwealth State in 1796. Our annual event of these 12 families came from Allen, Barren, Warren County Kentucky and Sumner Co.TN who first settled in Kentucky and later migrated to SW Missouri. I am a Hewlett-Spilman-Boucher-Pruitt descendant and serve as the Reunion Emcee. I suspect your Sarah Boucher Spillman may be a sister or Aunt to my Mary Massey Spilman Hewlett Pruitt. 2 of her brothers were named John Jasper Spilman Jr and Nathan Crosby Spilman. Her Brother, John J (1827-1914) wrote a Spilman Family History in 1909 that is well known by Allen County Ky and Lawrence County MO researchers. He married Laura Moody, d/o Isaac Moody and Malinda Bonner. His brother Nathan Crosby married Emily Paralee Pruitt, d/o Moses Pruitt (1810-1866) & Candance O'Mohundro Pruitt (1810-1870) who also migrated to Lawrence County Missouri. Parents of these Spilmans is John J Spilman (1794-1854) and Mary Boucher Spilman (1798-1860), d/o Peter Boucher Jr & Sarah Goodnight of Allen Co KY who came from Loudoun Co Virginia.
We gather annually on the 3d Sunday September weekend in Monett City Park Casino, Hwy 60 @ Hwy 37.We will be meeting again for the 76th time since 1934. If you need Missouri State maps and Lawrence County's, contact me again at email@example.com and I can send you a Spilman family tree.
