Josef Spindler from Fuerth, Germany

Does anyone know anything about Josef Spindler (born about 1920 in Fuerth, Germany, who escaped from germany literally days before war broke out. He came to Leeds in Yorkshire, England married Mary Grabowski (born 1924) in about 1951. Josef died around 1982.
Mary was recorded as Mary Lewis though she was born a Grabowski.

I am looking for information about Josef's origins. Please can anyone help.
