Spafford/Spofford tombstone on the Ma/NH stateline
I am researching my family from Dracut, Ma. I was recently checking Gumpas Cemetery in Pelham, NH for leads when I came across the Grave of Frederick Spafford. The grave was 5 feet tall and covered with writing. It told of the journey of Frederick from Deer island to Boston and the Mass Legislature. It was the most impresive tombstone I have ever seen.
I am not a decendant of the Spafford's but it would seem like such a waste for this tombstone to go un-noticed by his decendants.
The graveyard is not that large and the tombstone is on the right side of the cemetery. He is buried next to a Capt. Thomas Spaffard and in front of some SPOFFORDS.
I urge any Spaffords/Spoffords who may be related to go and record the info from this tombstone before it is lost forever.
PS. the cemetery is also refered to as Gumpus Cemetery.
