Gloria, Hi, this is Sandra from Michigan. My GGGrandmother was Martha or Murtle Spring. Her descendents said she grew up in Marion, IL. I have looked and looked at themany Spring families and haven't been able to place Martha with one yet. Marthas daughter, my Greatgrandmother, Nancy Adaline"Addie" Brock was born in 1880, in IL.. She Married my GGrandfather< James "Frank" Knight in 1897, Pulaski Co., IL., Mound City (not far from Williamson Co.). They both stated they were living in nearby Ballard Co.,Ky.at the time of there Marriage. The lis.gives Addies Mothers name as Martha Spring. B IL.,or it could possibly be read as Murtle Spring.Addies Father was Henry Brock & she said on her Marriage lis., she did not know where he was born. I only know of two Brock children, Addie and Henry Jr. Henry Jr. moved to La. as a young man. Addie died in Olmstead IL. in Jan. of 1915, she was 34. Her 3 younger children were given to families to raise as her husband travelled in his work, he visitedthe children and remained a part of their lives. Thelma Knight, B 1914, was given to a Graham family in Beltnap, Johnson Co., IL. to raise. Thelmas Foster parents both died about 1918 during the horrible Flu epidemic. The Wyatts then took her in and she was raised to aduthood by them. My Grandfather Roy Knight 12, stayed with, Charles Keller, he helped on his farm. Roy only saw Martha Spring Brock once, that he remembered, it was about 1910. She came to visit by boat or raft. Roy was born in 1905 and I figure Martha was born 1852-62. There were a few Martha Springs in Williamson Co.. The only family Martha could poss. belong to so far was a Moses who was Married to an Eleandor. They had a Martha who was born about 1858. Moses was in the Civil War. Anything you might notice that might place Martha Spring with her parents or Henry Brock in Williamson Co., would be appreciated. There were Brocks close to Marion, they were from Tn., this is a possible connection.
You are so fortunate to be going to Nashville. My family lived near Nashville for several years. & we just love it there! The Tn. State Lib. & Archives is right in Nashville and is a wonderful Gen. Library the includes many records of nearby States.(I would bet, So. Il. is among them) I just wish I had known more about my Ancestors during the time we lived in the Nashville area!!! Have a great trip!! Sandy
